A one-time link (or burn-after-reading link) is the safest way to share a password, API key, or secure note over the internet. Once the recipient clicks the link and views the secret, the link instantly self-destructs.
Why use a one-time link?
If you send a password via Slack or email, it lives in that inbox forever. If someone gains access to your recipient's laptop or email account months later, they can search for "password" and find all your credentials.
A one-time link solves this by deleting the payload immediately upon first view. It leaves no trace.
How to generate a one-time link for free
- 1. Navigate to PassLink.
- 2. Enter your secret (password, API key, or note) into the main text box.
- 3. Select your Expiration Time (the link will self-destruct after this time even if not viewed). We recommend 24 hours.
- 4. (Optional) Toggle "Advanced Options" to require a password.
- 5. Click Create Secret Link. Your link is generated instantly.
What happens under the hood
PassLink encrypts your secret using AES-128-GCM entirely within your browser. By the time the data reaches our servers, it is just a scrambled blob. The decryption key is attached to the link you share, but we never see that keyโensuring a true zero-knowledge architecture.
